If you fancy a stroll around a quiet beauty spot close to Manchester and Blackburn,get the train that travels between Manchester Victoria and Clitheroe and get off at Entwistle.

Within five minutes you could easily think you were in the Lake District.

A peaceful setting,the smell of pines and at this time of the year,the purple fox gloves bursting into life.

The location is the Turton and Entwistle reservoir set in the West Pennines.

The classic walk around the lake is flat and suitable for all types.There are plenty of resting spots and some picnic areas.At a leisurely pace you should complete the walk in a hour and a quarter.

Trains from Manchester depart on the hour from Victora station,the journey takes just over half an hour.

By car there is parking available just off the B 6391 between Darwen and Chapeltown.
