Two Cumbria pubs have made the top 12 award winning pubs in Alastair Sawday’s guide.

The Brown Horse Inn in the Winster Valley near Windermere and the Black Swan Inn in Ravenstonedale.

The Brown Horse is described as

In the bar of the handsome 18th-century coaching inn are stone floors, open fires, beams and traditional oak chairs; in the dining room, monumental candelabra shed dramatic light on quirky painted furniture and contemporary art.

For the Black Swan as you enter it warns you to

Duck under hanging baskets to find a good mix of people in the busy main bar, cosy with red plush stools, exposed stone and soft lighting.
